This book presents, in chronological order, the lives of holy ascetics whose presence adorned and sanctified the Athonite Monastery of Pantokrator and its domains. It begins with the remarkable story of Venerable Gabriel and the miraculous appearance of Archangel Gabriel with the hymn “Axion Estin”. Included are also excerpts from writings by these saints, demonstrating the inseparable link between ascetic life and spiritual teaching: “Godliness is useful for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come” (1 Timothy 4:8).
