In the beeswax ointment workshop of Pantokrator Monastery, the monks prepare traditional handmade creams whose healing properties have been known since the time of the ancient Greeks. Combining the many beneficial ingredients of plants and both ancient and modern knowledge from the Athonite pharmacopoeia, they offer moisturizing beeswax facial ointment, moisturizing beeswax hand ointment, warming beeswax ointment, regenerating beeswax ointment, and soothing balm.
Natural and beneficial ingredients:
Hydration and nourishment
Olive oil contains squalane and vitamin E. Squalane helps retain moisture in the skin, while vitamin E increases the skin’s ability to absorb and hold water. Olive oil contains anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial components and stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin. All this promotes active skin regeneration.
Skin health
Olive oil is highly valued for its antioxidant properties, making it superior to many other oils. It helps slow down the aging process, enhances deep nourishment, hydration, softness, and skin recovery.
Bacterial protection
For both bees and humans, beeswax acts as a natural preservative, inhibiting the growth of bacteria.
Wound healing
Beeswax acts as a natural adhesive and has bactericidal properties and a rich composition that stimulates tissue regeneration.
Breathability and protection
Honey sealed in beeswax combs is protected from external contaminants yet can still “breathe.” The skin under a beeswax ointment behaves in the same way.
St. John’s wort oil
St. John’s wort oil is produced by mixing St. John’s wort flowers with olive oil and letting it ferment in a jar under the sun for 40 days. It has antimicrobial, antiviral, and astringent properties.
How to use beeswax ointments:
Apply and gently massage a sufficient amount of beeswax ointment onto the affected area, chest, back, or neck 2–3 times a day for as long as the pain lasts. In cases of dry skin, massage a little longer to help absorption. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes.
Side effects:
Natural beeswax ointments have no side effects, as they are made from pure and natural ingredients. The only possible side effects apply to those allergic to bee products or any other ingredient. If you suspect a possible allergy, consult your doctor.
Shelf life:
The main characteristic of beeswax ointments is that they contain no water and therefore do not require chemical preservatives. They remain unchanged for 12 months after opening.
